Take a walk on the urban side: interview with Silvia Cannarsa

19/08/2024

Silvia Cannarsa is a freelance author-journalist and since 2023 she has been working in the editorial staff of the online magazine ilLibraio.it dealing with digital content, including newsletters and social media.

For years she had been wondering how to combine the world of books with her other great passion: walking. Silvia explains, in fact, that walking stimulates creativity and creates connections between body and mind. From this desire was born Libri Selvatici which is a format of literary walks.

These walks are led by Silvia herself in which we chat about books with the authors: they are presentations of walking books.

Each walk consists of 5 moments: 5 stops for questions about books and the people who have conceived, designed and written these books. In all, the walks last an hour, an hour and a half and this allows not only to get to know the authors more closely but also the interaction between all the participants, creating a relaxing and stimulating atmosphere at the same time. This relational and active modality contrasts with the classic format of literary presentations, static in the form of a seat.

And how and why are books chosen? Who chooses the places of the walks?

Through her work in publishing, Silvia can read and learn about many books of different types. Her goal is also to try to extend the life of books, continuing to talk about them in the weeks following their release and tell the story of the authors who wrote them, letting their voices be heard.

Silvia selects the books according to these 3 rules:

  • they must be small and soft enough to be easily carried and removed when needed
  • they must have been published within the last year
  • they must be contemporary and unconventional, surprising.

Once chosen, contact the author and agree on the place where the walk can take place, usually connected with the story being told. All walks are free and at the end Silvia sells books to participants. To register for the walks, just fill out a Google Form in which there is the calendar of literary walks.

Enjoy your literary walk!
