Level 3

The Adventures of Pinocchio. Story of a Puppet

The carpenter Mastro Ciliegia discovers that his piece of wood speaks.

Another carpenter, Mastro Geppetto, visits him.

Geppetto is really poor and wants some wood to build a puppet.

Mastro Ciliegia gives to Geppetto the piece of wood that speaks without saying it.

Geppetto sculpts a puppet: Pinocchio!

Pinocchio is a brat as he runs away. The police thinks Geppetto mistreats the puppet and they put him in prison.

Pinocchio returns home in the evening and finds a cricket called Jiminy. It scolds him and make him reflect on what he did. Pinocchio is only really angry and kills Jiminy Cricket.

At the end of the day, Pinocchio falls asleep with his feet too close to the fire.

The next day, Geppetto returns home and reconstructs Pinocchio’s feet.

Pinocchio promises to go to school and do well. Geppetto buys a book for him.

Pinocchio meets the Great Marionette Theatre and sells the book to buy the ticket.

The puppets from the show want to party with him.

Their leader is Mangiafoco and gets angry with Pinocchio.

Mangiafoco wants to burn Pinocchio, but then frees him and gives him five gold coins for Geppetto.

On his way home, Pinocchio meets a fox and a cat.

The Cat pretends to be blind, and the Fox pretends to be lame.

The two animals convince Pinocchio that if he plants his coins they will grow into a tree with gold coins.

The Fox and the Cat take advantage of Pinocchio and let him pay a generous dinner.

Then they abandon him in a hotel.

The day after, the Fox and the Cat dress up as bandits and try to rob Pinocchio.

Pinocchio gets in a wood and finds the house of a young Fairy with turquoise hair.

Pinocchio hides the coins under his tongue. The Fox and the Cat tries to steal them by hanging Pinocchio.

The Fairy saves Pinocchio. She takes care of him.

Pinocchio tells lies to the Fairy and his nose starts to grow longer and longer.

The Fairy tells Pinocchio to stay with her till Geppetto arrives.

Pinocchio promises to be a good child, but he is not.

He decides to follow his new friend Candlewick to the Land of Toys, a special place dedicated only to fun.

Pinocchio stays in the Land of Toys for 5 months: he is transformed in a donkey. All the children are donkeys there!

A circus manager buys Pinocchio, then another man buys him.

At the end of these adventures, Pinocchio is thrown into the water with the intention of being drowned.

Some fishes, friends of the Fairy, help Pinocchio and free him from being a donkey.

He can swim and save himself.

In the sea a dogfish eats him, the same one that ate Geppetto two years earlier.

Father and son find themselves inside the belly of the animal, from which they manage to escape thanks to a tuna.

Pinocchio is now a completely new child! After all these experiences he wants to behave in a different way.

He decides to work to help Geppetto and begins to study by himself.

Pinocchio discovers that the Fairy is in the hospital, seriously ill and with a lot of debts. He visits her and pays her debts.

Finally mature, Pinocchio is transformed into a real boy.
